Best of the BlogsLori Phillips

In ‘Best of the Blogs’  I will be reporting on the best of the metal clay forums and blogs.  You are welcome to submit your blog to me for review and inclusion in Metal Clay Today.

Truthfully, I am relatively new to the Metal Clay world, somewhere around a year. So when I get excited or learn something new, it becomes a very big deal to me. I truly hope this will encourage newbies to get their feet wet in our blog. I highly respect those of you who have "clayed around" for years, you have proved your talents, but I am a bit intimidated to get into a chat with you, because I feel that I should have known some of this information already. I know I cannot be the only one out there who feels that way. My goal for this blog is for everyone to feel welcome and enriched by the information I post. I will look for the best topics to appeal to everyone. I want to bring to you as much great information I can find, giving credit where credit is due.

Oh, back to who I am. I am a dabbler! I have been doing different types of arts and crafts for years. I think I have attempted everything at least once. But I swore I would never touch a sewing machine, Hah, yeah never say never because I fell in love with quilting. However that quickly became too confining and I began making art quilts. Wow, that is so freeing! I started embellishing with beads and buttons, fell in love with them and voila, jewelry making became an extension of my quilting. However, that wasn't enough for me because I could not get all the findings I wanted or imagined. This is when I discovered metal clay with all its infinite possibilities.

I belong to a few different types of guilds, where I love the personal contact with like-minded people. It excites my soul to see that much talent in one room! I try to glean as much information as I can from a variety of artists because there could be a time when even a small portion of what they say can be used for a future project. I am the curator of one guild's annual exhibit. This has been exhilarating, exhausting and challenging. I have also taught several classes using different medias. I love fibers, metals and anything that can crossover from other arts. I wander through scrapbooking stores, art stores, quilt shops, and glass stores looking for the next thing to play with. Glass stores has become the my most recent haunt because I have fallen in love with fusing glass. Thanks honey for my kiln. Now because of my kiln, I can play with copper and bronze clay. OH BOY! I just took a class from Hadar and now I am rearing to go.

Ok, enough about me, because you will get to know me better as we go on this blogging adventure together. I can't wait to get to know you, and have all your talents inspire myself and all our readers.

Happy Blogging, Lori
