Christie Anderson - Marana AZ
I was an illustration major that became a fine art black and white photographer. My specialty was children. I also did work for Pheonix Children's Hospital, Hospice of the Valley and the Wellness Community. On the side I was doing pro-bono work for the parents of terminally ill children. It was heartbreaking so when my semi-nomadic husband moved us for the 4th time in 3 years, I knew I needed a change.
I had enjoyed making jewelry as a hobby and often spent a fortune on stones and silver. In 2005, we were living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I am originally from Scottsdale, Arizona so there was a climate change to overcome. As I spent 7 months in my warm studio I decided to learn some new techniques. There were not any classes for miles so I bought supplies online and took every book my local library had available. For 6 months I experimented and finally had something I could sell to recoup the silver costs. I rented a booth at a local bead show. That brought the encouragement I needed to keep going I decided I didn't want to work with other artists so my work would truly be my own.
My personal style is to combine nature and architechture together with moving features like opening doors and windows, locks, keys, latches, and hinges. Intricately detailed story lockes and boxes have become my passion. I believe my current work is a culmination of all my experiences. I'm able to take the photographs and illustrations I've created through the years and build a 3D version of it in my silver! I have found my medium. I do still enjoy creating the product line that established my place in the jewelry community, my birdhouse pendants with opening tops and doors.
I am working on a line of books with Fairytale themes and finely detailed Fairy houses. I sell my work under the name Elemental Adornments.
