Joy Funnell
"Radiance"
Joy has done it again taking Third Place in the Ya Meana Patina Challenge.
Based in Hastings, East Sussex, UK, Joy is a Craftsman of the Guild of Enamellers and a Senior Art Clay Instructor. From making jewellery as a hobby she turned it into her full time profession several years ago. She is passionate about using silver clay. “It has revolutionised my whole way of working. I don’t sketch much and my work just evolves as I go along. Using Silver clay gives me freedom to play and try new ideas without the worry of wasting materials. Nothing gets fired unless I am happy with it”.
Joy creates unique colourful jewellery, and pieces are often reversible adding to their individuality. She also hand makes the fine silver chains she uses on her larger pieces and her bejewelled bracelets. She uses transparent enamels on the fired silver so the beauty of the silver can shine through and specialises in her Enamelled Accents technique where jewel like colours are captured in fine silver wires on the surface.
Joy teaches on a regular basis and specialises in tailored one to one workshops in Hastings UK. She has taught at the last two annual Art Clay World UK Conferences and in 2011 will be teaching at The Guild of Enamellers Conference in Canterbury UK in April and also at MCWC in Chicago in July. “MCWC will be the first time I have taught in the USA and I am very excited about it, I can’t wait to meet all the wonderful artists in person who will be attending”.
