Linda Stiles Smith
"Out of the Circle of Time"
Winner of Third Place in the Spring 2010 New Beginnings Challenge.
"Come Out of the Circle of Time suggests that to bloom one must leave the old constructs of time behind and accept new beginnings."
Linda began working in metal clay in 2002. She is certified as a PMC artisan and an Art Clay Senior Instructor.
Linda’s ring technique was published in Art Jewelry Magazine in 2005.
In 2006 she earned five awards for her designs in metal clay topped by Best of Competition in the 2006 Bead Art Awards from Lapidary Journal. The winning piece incorporated metal clay beads which echoed the lampwork glass beads made by her husband, Dale.
Linda has been making and selling artwork since receiving her BFA from Wright State University in 1995. Although she studied painting, a passion for working with three dimensional arts drew her into crafts of every kind. After doing college coursework in education initially with the intent of joining the traditional academic world, she decided that teaching the “focused learner” was more her style.
Her book, Metal Clay Basics and Bench Reference, was released in summer 2009 and is rapidly becoming the resource for beginning metal clay artists.
Currently Linda writes a column for the Art Clay Society Quarterly entitled Teaching Tips as well as a column on creativity, Eclectic Elements, for the newly released Metal Clay Artist Magazine. She is also a regular contributor to Metal Clay Today, the online magazine for metal clay artists. “Living is a continual learning experience. Use every opportunity to explore, play and enjoy it!”
